Rituals In The Pause: Eir (EYE-ur) Atla

Name: Eir (EYE-ur) Atla

Menopause phase: Menopause

Place you call home: The USA - I travel the country so I'm somewhere in there.

What you’re creating: Cosmic Motherhood- A journey to understanding yourself and your children on a Cosmic level.

Age: 42

1. Rituals can be deeply personal. What is one personal practice you’ve adopted to embrace the transitions of menopause?

Morning routine where I journal, connect to my higher self, meditate, and have my tea. That alone time really helps me throughout the day.

2. Have you redefined beauty in this stage? If so, how? Do any of your rituals support this definition?

Embracing the natural look and giving zero fucks what anyone else thinks. I have a nightly ritual of skincare and tea and supplements that helps

3. Is there a particular practice—whether it’s movement, meditation, or something else—that has become essential to your well-being in this current stage of your life?

Yoga, stretching, cardio walking, and kettlebells.

4. What role does your community or your sista circle play in your menopausal and aging experience, and do you share any rituals with other women that support this journey?

I host quarterly Full Moon get together where we drink tea, chat, and use our favorite divination tools to answer our burning questions. We also honor where we are at that moment in our life and hold space for each other.

5. What does the concept of sacredness mean to you as you age, and do you honor this stage of life through any special rituals?

Sacred to me means a journey that is usually highly personal, changes you in ways you weren't expecting, and forges you into a better version of yourself. My most sacred ritual is just remembering who I am outside the context of a person with the ability to bring physical life into the world. Learning to birth more creative endeavors into the world instead.

6. Looking back on your pre-menopausal years, is there anything you wish you had known or done differently to prepare for this transition? How does this wisdom shape your rituals now?

Understood that perimenopause starts FAR sooner than anyone tells you. I would have started preparing myself with knowledge to help the transition much sooner.

7. How do you define well-aging, and what does it look like for you?

Well-aging to me is embracing the natural changes that occur to my face, skin, hands etc and learning to love that woman I see in the mirror all over again despite her looking like a stranger some days. I eat well, take better care of my body than before, drink plenty of water, and spend more time working with my body and not fighting it anymore

8. Everyday Rituals: Share one ritual for each of the following, that you've not shared above

Daily Ritual: Boiling water in my kettle then pouring it over a handcrafted tea blend I made. Stirring it while it steeps and infusing the water with intentions and spells. Then drinking it during my meditation each morning.

Weekly Ritual: Get outside, away from people, and really enjoy Nature. Even better if I can be around the water while doing so.

Monthly Ritual: Monthly Full Moon rituals outside at night. Setting my intentions on fire and sending them to the Universe.

Yearly Ritual: Yule time- I adore the holidays. Embracing the changing weather, decorating my house with items from Nature, and being able to sit around a fire surrounded by my family makes the end of every year the best time to bring me back to what I love most- being a wife and mother.
